Message from Our Counselors
It is entirely normal to encounter a wide range of stressors during your time as a student. You may find yourself struggling with your studies or research, worrying about relationships, feeling unsure about your career path, or anxious about the future. You may also find that as you try to work things out on your own, time slips by, sleep becomes difficult, your energy fades, and motivation for everything starts to feel out of reach.
The Student Counseling Section is a counseling service for all students and graduate students at Kyushu University. We are staffed by faculty counselors holding Certified Clinical Psychologist qualifications and by academic advisors in each faculty and graduate school who can be consulted on matters related to your field of study, research, and career paths. We are here for a wide range of concerns. Appointments are generally required. Please call us or come directly to the Student Counseling Section reception to make a reservation.
1.Counseling
We are available to talk about all kinds of concerns that arise in student life — worries about studies or career choices, anxiety about the future, difficulties in personal relationships, low energy, and more. Our counselors maintain strict confidentiality and will take the time to listen carefully and support you. Sometimes simply speaking your feelings aloud to someone can bring relief or help you gain clarity. Even feelings of urgency or being stuck can sometimes reveal a way forward when explored quietly and without rush. We can also work with you on strategies for managing the everyday stresses of student life.
2.Consultations for International Students
We are here to help international students with a variety of concerns, from difficulty making Japanese friends, to relationship problems in the laboratory, low mood, and challenges with studying or research. Counseling is also available in English and Chinese.
3.Academic and Course Guidance
Difficulties with coursework or career direction sometimes reflect deeper personal circumstances or life background, but they are also often rooted in a lack of information or knowledge about course selection, research areas, or academic life in a given field. You can consult the academic advisors in each faculty and graduate school for advice and information specific to your area of specialization.
